“I’m someone who likes to read reviews but doesn’t often write them. SciGenie deserves for me to take the time to offer a review.
We learned about SciGenie through my neighbor, whose son participated in the electric circuitry club that SciGenie ran at our sons’ elementary school. She said that the program was organized and well-run. I was looking for summer camps for my son, and the SciGenie Herndon location, schedule, and camp themes worked for us, so I signed my son up for three weeks of SciGenie camp.
First, the location: King Abdullah Academy is a world-class facility. It is a large, modern, private school with a spacious, modern, colorful, open floor plan classrooms. The classrooms have flexible seating options. There are multiple levels of security at the door, with locked front doors with a doorbell, and multiple security officers at the front desk. The playgrounds will make your family go wide-eyed as you pull up to the property (they’re similar to the ones you can see from the road across the street at Nysmith Academy).
The staff: they are CHEERFUL, POLITE, knowledgeable young people. They look you in the eye, smile, converse well, engage with the children, and know the children’s names. I haven’t sat in any of the class sessions, but from the way they behave a drop-off and pick up, I would assume these are high school and college students who are knowledgeable about STEM topics and have a passion for teaching the children. Bravo to whomever hired these excellent young people. The staff is fantastic, and I felt absolutely confident leaving my child in their care every day.
The program: my son was THRILLED with what they did every day at SciGenie camp. The topics for the weeks he attended were Engineering, Safari Robotics, and Minecraft Coding. Every day he was enthusiastic about what’d he’d done and learned there and about returning the next day. It was hard to get him to leave when we went to pick him up.
The before and after care hours worked for our work schedule, too.
We definitely will be looking for the SciGenie after school clubs at my son’s school and will consider SciGenie a top choice for summer camp in future years.”
